Julio Morales is one of the other directors within the club. Julio has been a great mentor coach since I started coaching about five years ago. He is currently the main social media manager so I wanted to get more insight into what goals he has for the social media sites, especially Instagram. He said he tries to highlight all ages and both genders, but it gets difficult sometimes because he has so many teams and responsibilities himself it's tough to get to as many different teams as he would like. Since I'm not coaching and only assuming my temporary communications and social media director position, I'll be able to bounce from trainings and games easier than Julio can. I also plan on putting together an email to send out to the rest of the coaches asking them to send me pictures that they might have collected over the season that they would like posted on our Instagram and a few highlights from the season. This weekend I'll be joining him in Leavenworth, WA for one of his games to work on documenting more than just the game while getting feedback from him.
One thing I've learned from my MBA classes is it's not always necessary to reinvent the wheel. The club in Spokane has a great social media presence where they post more than just trainings and games. They post about school accomplishments, team get togethers, and updates on players that have continued to the next level in college or even alumni weddings. This type of community feeling is what I aim to accomplish with the Timbers-Thorns Instagram as closely as possible over the next month and half.
