Today was an exciting Halloween on a personal level! We got to see our little one for the first time on a full ultrasound! That doesn't have anything to do with my mentorship, but I did go to tonight's trainings in an even better mood than usual. I bounced around from the trainings that were going on seeing their Halloween practice. As a player, I loved dressing up for Halloween practices. Now I love watching those goofs be creative and go out having fun as a bag of Jelly Beans, a blow up T-Rex, or old ladies who stick to character for as much as practice as possible.
Nights like these are very important for coaches and players alike. Players get a chance to relax and have fun, which I often see them forget because of the pressure put on them by themselves, coaches, parents, teammates, or all four. On fun nights, they can just relax and be kids again. Coaches also get reminded that that's who they are working with...kids. It is easy to get caught up in the constant improvements that the focus of enjoyment can get lost. I'm not saying anyone is in the wrong, just that balance is important.
