Today I went to Wenatchee, WA to cover a game for Julio. Usually on the way to games I can focus on just the game thinking about strategy, pre-game talk, starters... simple concepts that don't really go beyond the day. This time, with a director's mindset, it was different thinking about my plan after the game of which games I needed to attend, the best pattern to attend them, and trying to remind myself to post on social media about the game I was going to coach rather than just coaching as usual. This got me thinking about how hectic the current director's lives and minds must be! Each of them has additional duties organizing events, tracking training locations, coach management, and a minimum of two teams each. Luckily, the social media side of my position can be done from just about anywhere, but long emails, phone calls, and personal interactions aren't as easy when traveling. This also got me thinking about parent lives with multiple children that are involved in sports or activities. Up until this point, all of my focus had been on communicating and marketing from the club to the parents in promotion of our athletic goals. A new idea would be to show club appreciation for parents or contact players and have them express in a post or quick video what they appreciate about their parents and other adult supporters. Most of the players within our club have made it a family affair with multiple siblings playing and in some cases even their parents, aunts, and uncles have played with the club as well. This is something that even though it is known throughout the area, would be a big "WOW" moment for a lot of people within the soccer community.
