Julio has taken over the 05 boys team this year. The expectations are pretty high for this team. They have a lot of talent, but their downfall is their overall work ethic because they have realized and been told about how good they are. Julio's concern is that they will plateau now when things are getting serious since they're getting into college recruitment age rather than staying hungry and continuing to work hard. Mike was the coach for the last couple years which means that they've had a good coach, but Mike's son also plays on the team which means that Mike is seen as a friend's dad by quite a few players. Julio continued to explain that while Mike doesn't do an extreme one way or the other favoring his son or being too hard on him, it's still a different and challenging dynamic whenever the coach has relationships with players outside of soccer whether it be a dad or family friend. This is another challenge when giving team assignments since many parents want to coach their own kid. Some do completely fine, like Mike, but most either play favorites or are way too hard on their own kid which ruins it for them. The club's number one priority is obviously the players so their well being is always put first over the coach/parent's preferences. They've even lost coaches in the past because the directors didn't think it would be a good fit to coach their own child so the parent decided not to coach at all. That would be a tough situation because there's usually not enough coaches as it is so accepting one less coach would be a challenge.
